Christians Protest New Film Claiming that Jesus was a Product of Rape

Paul Verhoeven

Christian groups everywhere are up in arms over a new film that suggests that Jesus was born in the context of sexual assault.  An organization called the Christian Film & Television Commission has been speaking publicly against the film, “Jesus of Nazereth,” written by Paul Verhoeven.  Verhoeven was the director of other well-known films, such as “Total Recall,” “Showgirls,” “Basic Instinct” and “RoboCop.” Verhoeven’s account of the birth of Jesus is enough to make most Christians shudder.  Rather than believing that the Virgin Mary was impregnated by God, the film says that the baby Jesus was born after his mother was raped by a Roman soldier. The Blaze says that Jesus is depicted as an “ethicist and a radical prophet, whose message became too politically strong for the Romans to idly accept and endure.”

[Verhoeven] wants to spread these lies and blasphemies to a much broader audience,” the group says in their petition. “He is a part of a group of “scholars” called “The Jesus Seminar” so it’s no surprise that he will be spreading doubt and confusion.

Verhoeven has advanced degrees in math and physics and moved to Hollywood from The Netherlands in order to start making films. He was eventually the only non-theologian admitted into the Jesus Seminar, a group of seventy scholars who study biblical history and philosophy, among other things.  So, the director is quite familiar with the bible, but doesn’t appear to have committed to any particular religion.

The liberal media’s relentless persecution of the Christian faith shows yet again the double standard of bigotry. There’s no way a similar movie would ever be made claiming Muhammad was the product of a rape,” wrote Dr. Ted Baehr, the founder of the Christian Film & Television Commission.

But in spite of the protests, it is being reported that the film will likely go on as scheduled.  According to the Huffington Post:

It seems unlikely that Christian protests will be able to prevent Verhoeven from making the film — he recently obtained funding — and the controversy may offer the film the kind of free publicity that helped Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Last Temptation of Christ,’ and Monty Python’s ‘The Life Of Brian

For the purpose clarity, the views of this site admin is same with that contained in Qur’an and Hadith of the Prophet of Islam (SAW). Islam considers Jesus to be one of the greatest and most forbearing of prophets, in addition to Noah, Abraham, Moses and Muhammad, may God praise them. Jesus is also considered to be the Messiah as well.

Like Christians, Muslims believe that Mary/Maryam was a chaste, virgin woman, who miraculously gave birth to Jesus.  Jesus’ birth in itself was a miracle in that he had no father. Allah describes his birth in the Quran as follows:

“And mention in the Book (the Quran), Mary, when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east.  She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her a spirit from Us, (the angel Gabriel), and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.  She said: ‘Verily, I seek refuge with the Most Gracious (God) from you, if you do fear God.’  (The angel) said: ‘I am only a messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son.’  She said: ‘How can I have a son, when no man hath touched me, nor am I unchaste?’  He said: ‘So (it will be), your Lord said That is easy for Me (God): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (God), and it is a matter (already) decreed (by God).’” (Quran 19:16-21)

This fact, however, does not necessitate that Jesus is divine in essence or spirit, nor is he worthy of worship, for Adam’s existence was more miraculous than that of Jesus.  If his miraculous birth were a proof that Jesus was God incarnate or His son, then Adam would have more right over this divinity than him.  Rather, both are prophets who were inspired with revelation from God Almighty, and both were servants to Him living according to His commandments.

Indeed, the likeness of Jesus with God is as the likeness of Adam.  He created him of dust, then He said to him: ‘Be!’ and he was.’” (Quran 3:59)

  1. This is just terrible. And sadly yes, this is a dividend of democracy. This is a way of life this man is dragging in the mud. I also believe this is a result of over-passivenes amongst christians. Dr. Ted was right and wrong when he said a movie depicting Muhammad like this can’t be made. Wrong in the sense that worse films have been made about Muhammad. Right in the sense that if Muhammad was depicted EXACTLY like this, fatwas will drop. Heads will roll.

  2. why are Christian groups complaining? have they ever condemn similar act by the western il-mannered critics to mis-represent the true picture of Muhammad. the danish cartoon is a recent example of the western bastardy to Islam, yet when the muslim across the worl rected to it, the liberal western Christian were the first to condemned the muslims. anyway, do not be surprised that if such movie is eventually release for general public view, i bet my life that no muslim world will participate in watching such a movie and contrarily the movie will receive a maximum view from the so called Christian nations. so dont complain, it is what u want for this world that u are now getting
